I would first ask your self what interests you. What do you want to accomplish?
EVE is far too "deep" to just download and start playing. You can do that, but that is why so many people try it and quit saying it's boring or too complicated.
I actually went my first whole year just running solo. I would quit, then be back within a month or two. I felt there was more to the game than what I was seeing and doing. Then I enrolled in Agony's PvP University's Basic class.
That was it, I was hooked. Combat in EVE (when you really know what you are doing) is a serious rush. You can take down ships MUCH larger and more powerful with a squad of small specialized ships with competent pilots.
It is something that must be experienced. I encourage any interested to give it a try.
Follow Hemi's advice, and use your trial to take some lessons with Agony or Eve University. When you log in, get into the help channel (the tutorial will show you how to do that) and ask there about either Agony or Eve University and they'll send you on your way. There is a fee to the classes, the last time I checked, but it is quite small and perhaps you would be able to bum it off somebody if you ask around.

orangebandguy: My free trial ended, shame i didn't really enjoy it. Oh well each to their own.
I am truly sorry that you didn't enjoy the game. I wish CCP could, in some way, make the learning curve a bit less steep.
But, in the end, that is the games appeal.
It's like a new job, you learn a whole sh-t pile of stuff, only to find out you use about 20% of it on a daily basis. But in getting there, you have mastered your role.
I think the trick to EVE is taking small bites, that and finding people in game who will help you along. For most, the amount of information you are presented with is daunting to say the least.

Fixed.
The real key isn't only the faster training time, but the fact that a new player has less skills to start out with, and therefore will be better able to train what they want to train. CCP is going to have new players starting out with few skillpoints so the new players don't feel overwhelmed by a ton of skills (useful ones, I might add, but ones the player may not immediately understand fully) that they don't know what to do with.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. The NPE as it stands is a bad idea.
With this change, instead of taking 1 month to learn learning skills, it now takes half of the time. Minus the time it used to take to get memory up to level 4/3 which is another 4-5 days saved.
This means it only takes new players 10 days to get basic to 4, and advanced to 3.
This alone is not an issue, as anything that makes new players have to spend less time training learning skills is a good thing.
however , once you lose your double training bonus, you lose not only half learning speed, but 4 times slower learning speed than IF you trained learning skills during your double training rate.
SO if you don't train learning you will train 4 times slower than a player that did train learning skills before hand.
Well, I start playing, thanks to Hemi, once my laptop finishes downloading it.
I report badge farmers so that way they can't get their precious Matrix badges, among others. Abide by our rules, and do not spam up areas just because you think they're dead. I read dead areas frequently to report badge farming, as it's strongly frowned upon, and necroing is against the rules.

Good for you!
One thing, there are others that play the game. I know that Guitar does, as well as Jamanticus. They might be willing to kick down some buddy passes. We are limited in the amount we can give and as with most passes if you subscribe, we get a free month.
Well, if I like the game I'll subscribe. I've some friends who play this and they like it because it's easy to work around a college schedual. If I could get a job soon I'd more then likely subscribe to this then LoTRO.

Actually, this month I'm not playing. Exams are in this month, plus it would be nice to give the BoB fiasco some time to cool down. You'll have to ask Hemi for a pass =(

I got one from him. My name is Milo Semreh. And on my computer all the ships look funky because my video card isn't supported.

Well, I understand that, but I think other's would join now, or atlest I'd hope so.

Sorry. If I join a Corp, it will be a big corp where I would get some sort of benefit from being a member...be it help with the basics, getting me involved in bigger aspects of the world, or general PvP later on.
